A Non-Birthday Birthday Cake

We got a Facebook message on Tuesday about making a cake for a friend (Misty).  She would be in town this weekend and some of her daughters were not able to be with her for her birthday.  They wanted to surprise her with a non-birthday birthday cake!!

The only specifications were flowers: pink and blue, and it needed to be delicate.   We are usually told exactly what to do, so we don't have many decisions to really make.  We thought it would be easy to pick our own design, but there were so many ideas to choose from, it actually made it harder!!
After looking at the different types of flowers: butter cream, royal frosting, fondant flowers, and gum paste. We decided gum paste flowers are definitely the most delicate.  Joy made the roses and I made the smaller flowers and leaves.

Misty's favorite cake flavor is lemon.  We made a lemon cake and lemon butter cream frosting with a little cream cheese to add flavor and creaminess to the frosting.

You can see more pictures on our Facebook page! Thanks for stopping by!
